80,000 homes added to rental market in 2017 by ‘accidental landlords’
Analysis from lettings network, Countrywide, shows that landlords who had previously tried to sell their properties added an estimated 80,000 homes to Britain’s rental market in 2017.
Using its own data, the lettings chain reported that around one in 12 (8.2%) homes that came on to the rental market in 2017 has been up for sale within the previous six months. This equates to approximately 80,000 properties across Britain.
Countrywide reported that it is the third year in a row that the proportion of accidental landlord properties has increased.
