All landlords must do their homework

The buy-to-let market … is a sector which can often catch out some of the more amateur landlords and that it requires a professional approach to really maximise investments and rental yields.

Recently the PRS Trends Survey, commissioned by specialist buy-to-let mortgage lender Paragon Mortgages, revealed that landlords were said to be achieving an average yield of 6.5 per cent.

It also highlighted that professional landlords achieved a higher average yield than the smaller-scale landlords surveyed, reaching 6.9 per cent – an increase on 6.5 per cent in Q1.

Of course, it comes as no surprise that more experienced landlords achieve better results because their property choices are driven by yield and they will undoubtedly have a more robust approach to the property management side of the operation.

However, it remains prudent to emphasise that anyone wanting to become a landlord, whether it is one property or 100, must undertake their research thoroughly.
