Average rental deposit soon to top £1,000

Tenants moving to a new property in England and Wales will soon have to cough up a security deposit averaging £1,000 according to the research from the Deposit Protection Scheme.

The DPS findings show that those renting between April and June of this year had to pay, on average, a deposit of £970.48 when moving in. This represents a £41.40 rise (4.47%) when compared to the previous quarter.

Unsurprisingly properties with a London postcode commanded the highest deposit with an average figure of £1,799.11. In contrast, properties in the Durham postcode area had the lowest average deposit of just £467.76.
