Benefits of renting over buying may have been under estimated

New research from the University of Stirling claims that renting rather than buying may be more worthwhile than previously thought.

Dr Isaac Tabner says that a simple comparison between rent and mortgage costs overlooks additional, hidden costs such as building insurance and property maintenance.

The research, published in the International Review of Financial Analysis, provides an in depth review as to how tenants’ and owners’ personal circumstances and macro economic conditions can result in renters being better-off financially, even over extended time frames.
