Housing market cools unexpectedly in April

Mortgage lender, Halifax has reported that the UK housing market cooled unexpectedly during April indicating signs of weakness in the market and the consumer economy in general.

House price rises dropped year-on-year to 2.2% in April, down from 2.7% in March. On the month, prices fell 3.1% after a 1.6% rise in March, which was weaker than all forecasts and marking the biggest drop since September 2010.
