More flexibility in relation to gas safety checks afforded to landlords

Agents and landlords responsible for ensuring that gas safety checks are carried out in private rented accommodation will be able to adopt a more flexible approach from April of this year.

Whilst safety standards will not be reduced or relaxed, changes to the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) 1998 (GSIUR) will allow greater flexibility when regular checks are conducted.

After 5th April agents and landlords can carry out the annual gas safety check in the two months prior to the due date and still retain the existing expiry date. The Health & Safety Executive believes that this will mean that agents and landlord will no longer have to wait until the last minute to renew the check and risk not gaining access to the property.
