Communities secretary announces regulation measures for letting agents

During his speech to the 2017 Conservative Party Conference, communities secretary Sajid Jarvis announced several new proposals, which include a requirement for letting agents to join a professional organisation and meet “certain minimum standards.”

To counter the promise of rent controls made by Jeremy Corbyn last week, Mr Jarvis also revealed several measures which should appeal to tenants. These include a requirement for all landlords to join a national redress scheme, thereby giving tenants a channel to raise complaints about poorly managed properties, along with a compulsory 12 month rental period “for those who want it.”
