Government announces consultation on longer private tenancies

The Labour party puts forward proposals for private rented sector

The government has pledged to formally consult on proposals for longer tenancies within the private rental sector.

Although the government and opposition politicians have often engaged in debate about the issue of longer tenancies, and industry bodies frequently agreeing to the proposals, there has not been a formal position put forward by the government until now.

The Housing Secretary, James Brokenshire, said to the Commons, “We will shortly consult on options to support landlords to offer longer tenancies to those who want them.”
