Figures from the private housing rental index from the Office of National Statistics show that private rental prices paid by tenants in Great Britain rose by 2.6% in the 12 months to March 2016. This figure remains unchanged compared to that for the year to February 2016. Adrian Gill, director of letting agents Your Move and Reeds Rains commented that recent changes to stamp duty taxation will likely hamper the growth of the private rented sector, leading to a shortage of available properties and thereby resulting in higher rents.
