Industry panel trashes Labour housing policy

At the Paragon Buy to Let Debate, Labour plans to introduce three-year tenancy agreements as standard and to restrict private rental costs have been dismissed and branded “political gerrymandering”. During the debate, panel members suggested that the introduction of rent restrictions would result in landlords abandoning certain geographic areas, and thereby exacerbating the problem the proposed legislation is attempting to address. On another issue, the panel agreed that too many rogue landlords and letting agents were able to slip through the net, but also warned that further regulations were not the answer.
