Northern Ireland rents rising at twice UK rate

Figures compiled by insurance agency, HomeLet, show that rents in Northern Ireland rose by 4.3% in the twelve months to September 2017 compared to an overall UK rise of 2.1%.

These figures translate to an average rent in NI of £636 in September 2017 compare to £610 twelve months previous.

Sarah Corrigan, policy and practice officer at advice body Housing Rights NI commented that the latest figures were of “grave concern.” She went on to say that, “it is extremely worrying, especially in the current context of welfare reform and the launch of Universal Credit.”
