Rents around UK increase to highest price ever seen

  • In August, the average cost of renting a home in the UK increased by 2.1% over the past year to £806 per month – the highest average rental amount ever seen, and the first time this cost has exceeded £800
  • Since August 2011, the average cost of renting a home in Greater London increased by 5.8% to £1,272 per month
  • This is the most expensive average rents in the Capital have ever been
  • Tenants’ average income has increased by a marginal 0.2% over the past 12 months
  • The percentage of tenants aged 26-35 and 36-45 who previously owned a home has seen a third consecutive annual decrease since August 2010
