Simple way to catch criminal landlords highlighted by RLA

The Residential Landlords Association has suggested that council tax forms, which occupants are legally obliged to complete when they move into a new property, should be amended to require that the tenure of a property is specified and in the case of rented properties the details of the owning landlord included. To facilitate this, the RLA is calling for the Government to include in the Housing Bill – announced in yesterday’s Queen Speech – measures to allow councils to request the aforementioned details. This in turn would make it much more difficult for criminal landlords to avoid being identified.
