Stamp duty deadline prompts surge in lettings

Data released by Agency Express reveals that April’s national figures show a massive surge in activity for the letting market. New listings rose by 12.5% whereas completed lettings rose by 8.6%. The major factor contributing to these figures is of course the rush to purchase properties before the stamp duty surcharge deadline. The large increases this year contrasts sharply with falls in April of previous years. The strong market was particularly evident in London where new listings were up by 21.12% and new lets up by a massive 30.35%.
