According to research from the Nottingham Building Society, more than one in five landlords experience a delay of over four months before signing up their first tenants.

The research should act as a warning to those considering becoming a landlord. Delays in finding a first tenant can put a strain on finances when mortgage costs have to be met with no rental income. However, the good news is that once tenants are in place the pressure eases considerably, with landlords averaging void periods of only one month per year.
