Call for longer tenancies

The Residential Landlords’ Association (RLA) has called on the government to remove barriers preventing landlords from offering longer tenancies, including mortgage and leasehold conditions that often prevent this. This comes in the wake of the English Housing Survey for 2014-15 which shows that over the last 10 years the proportion of private rented households with dependent children has increased from 30% in 2004-05 to 37% in 2014-15. For such households a stable address is necessary for their school-age children.
