Carney to target buy-to-let property market
In an interview with the Financial Times, Bank of England governor, Mark Carney, has expressed concern over high levels of lending to landlords and has vowed to take action. The Financial Policy Committee, led by Mr Carney, has warned that the stock of buy-to-let lending might be disproportionately vulnerable to very large falls in house prices. Such a situation may encourage investors to sell their properties and consequently pose a threat to the UK’s financial stability.
