Difficulties await agents when Immigration Act comes into force
When the Immigration Act comes into force in October, letting agents and private landlords will be required to vet tenants to ensure they are legally entitled to reside in the UK. RICS and NLA have argued that it is wrong for the government to ask landlords and agents to interpret complex documents and effectively operate as an arm of the Border Control service. The government has countered this argument by saying that housing is an important enabler of illegal immigration which is why this legislation is being brought into force.
