The Labour Party has proposed a range of animal welfare measures that includes the right for tenants to keep a pet in their properties.

Currently, rental agreements often include clauses that preclude the keeping of pets. Tenants make seek permission from their landlord or letting agent to do so, but Labour wants to introduce a default right for tenants to keep pets unless it can be shown that the pet will be a nuisance.
