Since 1st October 2014 the Property Ombudsman scheme has seen a 14% increase in lettings agent membership. From this date it has been a legal requirement for all lettings agents and property managers in England to belong to one of three approved redress schemes. TPO states that 13,624 offices are now signed up, which represents 85% of lettings agents. The Consumer Codes Approval scheme has now approved both TPO’s sales and lettings codes. This means that every agent registered with TPO is required to provide additional consumer protection that goes beyond that required by law.
