RICS calls for a central database of householders in rented accommodation

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has called on the British Government to create a central database of householders in rented properties. Such a system could be used as an alternative to the current system of tenant funded credit and reference checks.

RICS says that by allowing landlords to access other vital information, such as past rental histories, they would be able to look beyond traditional measures of suitability. More vulnerable tenants in particular would benefit from such an approach.
