Tenants using fake IDs to pass Right to Rent checks

BBC programme, Inside Out London, has exposed how Right to Rent rules have created a black market in forgeries as undocumented immigrants attempt to flout the law.

Innocent firms were said to be “easily duped” into thinking that the supplied identity papers were genuine when letting agents were secretly filmed.

The programme reported that criminal gangs are charging up to £500 for fake paperwork including passports, National Insurance cards and residence permits.
