Tribunal stokes row over the cost of heating a rented home
Landlords need to switch on to a new tribunal ruling that orders them to make sure heating in rented homes is affordable for tenants.
Liverpool City Council won a case on appeal before the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) (UTLC) that means landlords must make sure heating running costs in buy to let homes are not too expensive for renters.
An earlier hearing at a Residential Property Tribunal (RPT) had decided that as long as heating was satisfactory in a rented home, the landlord did not have to consider energy costs.
