Two thirds of tenants admit to tenancy agreement breaches

A study for interior firm Hillarys has revealed that 67% of tenants admit to have broken tenancy rules in at least one significant way.

2,399 tenants aged 21 and over were questioned. They key findings of the survey included:

  • 39% had a pet when this was explicitly banned;
  • 28% admitted causing interior damage;
  • 26% confessed to smoking inside when this was forbidden, and
  • 17% admitted to sub-letting their property..
