UK’s landlords spooked by coming election
A survey of over 500 landlords by Urban.co.uk found that almost half of the UK’s private rented sector landlords have halted plans to expand their property empires ahead of the general election. Among the biggest concerns for landlords were fluctuations in property prices, changes to rental regulations, rent controls and taxes.
Oliver Atkinson, co-founder and chief executive of Urban.co.uk, has said “Housing will be one of the main battlegrounds over the next few months and landlords will be cautious regardless of who will sit in government come May. With this in mind, parties across the political spectrum should look at policies that protect renters and landlords, not one or the other.”
